Tamworth Textile Triennial Tour

I've started studying full time, so haven't had time to keep up with adding information here. The Tamworth Textile Triennial has just wrapped up at the RMIT Gallery in Melbourne.

I couldn't get down for the opening, but there are images on Christopher Young's Zebra-Factory Blog here. This is a photo by Christopher of my work in Melbourne:

The show moves on to Goulburn next, opening at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery from April 10 to May 19, 2012. The official opening is on Friday April 13. This is the invitation for this leg of the show:

I was leafing through a craft magazine the other day and came across this article about the show. It's from Craft Arts International, No. 84, 2012, pp. 114-115. Click on the image for a larger view:

Fiber Arts Article

This is a feature from the Nov/Dec 2006 issue of Fiberarts magazine called ‘Artists to Watch’ which shows some of my textiles. Well, part of the feature - only the page with my work on it. It shows work from textile students around the world. I was the only student from Australia included that year. The magazine's website also has more images from the students, including one of my sock weavings, here.

Momentum in Canberra - Closing weekend

I've just come back from Canberra where the latest leg of the Momentum: 18th Tamworth Fibre Textile Biennial tour has just finished at the ANU School of Art Gallery. There was a diverse and well-attended symposium on the Friday, the closing night event in the evening, then on the Saturday a series of floor talks from the curator and 5 of the artists in the show. I spoke on both days, giving information about different aspects of the work that is in the show.

I took a number of snapshots of the exhibition so that a general feel for the show can be had, without trying for great shots of individual work. Most of the titles and artist details can be seen in this post. The first two photos are from the entrance, then the rest move around the gallery in no order.

Here are some photos from the closing night:

These are from the floor talks, in the order that people spoke. Vicki Mason, Jane Bowden, me, Annie Trevillian, curator Valerie Kirk talking about Louise Saxton's work, and Cecilia Heffer. Valerie Kirk spoke about the work of all the artists who weren't there.

And lastly here's a review of the show from The Canberra Times on Thursday July 30 (Times 2 section, page 8). It's the best review of the show yet, and of course by "best" I mean "talks about my work the most"!

The tour moves to Wagga next with the next show on at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery from August 7 to September 30. See here for full tour details.

I also received some more photos from the weekend taken by Annie Trevillian:

Trunk Volume One: Hair

This post is about a new book that I've contributed to. Trunk Volume One: Hair has been edited by Susan Boccalatte and Meredith Jones. There's a wide variety of hair-related texts and images. It includes images of two of my hair weavings.

Not great scans of the book, so here are the original images:

The first work is Six Degrees (Sally McLennan to Vida Gaigalas), 2004-07, one panel from a series of ten; human hair, cotton, mount board, graphite.

The second is from The Devil's Cloth series, 2008; human hair, cotton.

Book launch - Trunk Volume One: Hair

Here are details of the launch of a new book edited by Suzanne Boccalatte and Meredith Jones. It's being launched as an event in the Sydney Writers' Festival on May 24, 6:00-7:30pm. I'm mentioning it here because images of two of my hair weavings are in the book. This series of books starts with a volume about hair, and in future volumes will cover different parts of the body. I'm very excited to be a part of the project, and look forward to seeing the finished product. If you're in Sydney, I hope you can come and be part of this exciting event. RSVP essential.

Textile Fibre Forum Articles

I'm showing some more publications in this post. Both articles come from Textile Fibre Forum, an Australian journal. The first is an article written by me which was an excerpt from my book (currently #3,351,095 on Amazon...):

(Textile Fibre Forum vol. 26, iss. 4, no. 88)

Technically this article doesn't actually mention me, but it's about the Momentum exhibition, and lists all the participating artists at the end, so it goes on my c.v.!

Momentum update

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Momentum: 18th Tamworth Fibre Textile Biennial is currently showing at Tweed River Art Gallery. Here are some images from curator Valerie Kirk:

Also, the latest Surface Design issue came out just recently (Spring 2009). The issue is devoted to Australian textiles, and includes an interview with Valerie Kirk about Momentum:

Publications

I wanted to show some things that had been published last year. The first is an interview with Dominique Angeloro in Incubate magazine which I wrote about last year (see this post). There is a pdf of the issue of the magazine (Issue 2, Summer 2008) which is easier to read here.

This is a catalogue from the Entanglement exhibition which I was in last year. My work is the series of sock panels at the bottom of page 2. (Click on the photos for a larger readable version)

This is the page with my details from the catalogue of Momentum, the 18th Tamworth Fibre Textile Biennial.
